what we read.

This is something I hope will bloom into being a regular feature on the blog. We have really been enjoying our library lately. It is less than a 5 minute drive for us and it takes us down these back roads that are really joyful, it's a truly beautiful side of Tuscaloosa. I love it. The library here is incredible. They have a huge selection. Marc and I were excited to find that they have a good selection of films as well. (Youth in Revolt!? Yes.)
Hopefully this post inspires you to hit up your local library.
We typically get around 6-7 books each visit. I wanted to highlight the really good ones here.

We loved "Jitterbug Jam", it reminded me of Monsters Inc with a little more artsy spin.
Ocean picked this one out because the girls glasses look cool. "My travelin' eyeFrom Amazon: "Here is a charming story about one very inspiring little girl who overcomes her disability and offers inspiration to others."
Loved the illustrations throughout, but especially these.

"Monsters day at work"
I was drawn to this book for the illustrations. They were so quirky cute. When we got home I noticed the name Sarah Dyer and instantly recognized it. I got home and looked it up and sure enough, I have read Sarah's blog before. Made me really happy I had a slight starstruck feeling when I was reading. Its a super cute book and the illustrations are so fun. Be sure and swing over and check out her Etsy.

Any recommendations? What is one of your favorite books for children?

  2. We are definitely Dr. Suess fans too. Some of our favorite books are Happy Birthday Little Pookie, The Barefoot Book of Giants Ghosts, and Goblins, and Owl Moon.
I love reading about what others are reading. :)

  4. We read. A LOT. We check 20 books out from our library every 2 weeks.

Two of my kids' favorites are Stellaluna and Flutterby.
Two of my favorites would be Winter's Gift and Tell Me Something Happy Before I Go To Sleep.

  5. Good idea, I adore library books. Bekah I was wondering if you would do a post about how you support Marc going back to school (or continuing in his grad degree.) My husband is thinking about going back to school but I can't imagine how we'll do it without taking out a ton of loans. Not to mention we'd love to have a family and don't want school to prevent that for too long. I know you are very good about budgeting and working, but does it ever seem impossible? Any ideas would be appreciated.

  6. I really love Lois Ehlert books. Most of them have a nature theme with beautiful illustrations. If we have one of her books it quickly becomes the most requested for the week. Adoration is just drawn to the

  7. I also hit up the library with my little one every two weeks. She is too young to officially pick out her own books(18 months on the 23rd), but she does an awesome job pointing at her potential picks from my back. We usually get about ten books each time, and read them about five times each in the two weeks we have them.I love doing this with her. I am hoping she will be a strong reader. Thanks for sharing!

  9. Librarying (new word) is one of the things I'm excited about once my daughter is born and old enough to be interested in books. My mom got me a library card long before I could read, and I think it really influenced me to care a lot about language and use my imagination. It's sad how few people read nowadays... I definitely don't want my kids to fall into that category.
