currently, on a friday.

(photos from our 45 minute escape night)
Seriously. He still makes me swoon. What a beautiful man he is.

We wrote our bucket list for the year, which may or may not include eating at all the BBQ restaurants in town.

Wearing my Christmas gift from my sisters. Yes, it is a mini-cactus. I love it! It has been on my wish list on Etsy for awhile, and I was so excited when I opened it. They are so fun to wear. You can get one here.

Wishing there were better thrift stores here in Tuscaloosa. I got spoiled in Athens. There were 4 that we frequented--super cheap!-- and I always found something wonderful. Here, there are 3 worth noting, and 2 are overpriced unless you catch them on 70% off day.
Feeling hopeful about out future. There are lots of ideas swirling over here. Talks of taking this blog further, opening a shop, farming, goats...and all of these ideas are things Marc and I will do together. I cannot tell you how thrilling the idea of being a business team is to us.
Anticipating  SUMMER! I know it is a little ways off, but come on! I want cutoffs and tank tops.
Decorating our room. Somehow it has been overlooked, but Marc has plans to build a bed, and I have plans to paint and hang things. This should be good.
Debating whether or not I should start doing vlogs. What do you guys think?
Reading The Creative Family by Amanda Blake Soule. I found it at our library after seeing it on her blog. It is so inspiring. I highly recommend it.
Writing a FAQ section for the blog. It is coming I promise. In the meantime, if you have a question let me know! (Leave it in the comments or email me!)
Wearing skinnies and oversized shirts. It is what has been working for me lately. Oh, and silver bangle bracelets with lots of rings. It gives it the boho-edge I like.
Hoping to be able to get to a yoga class within the next month or so; I really miss taking yoga. I crave a little community to steal away to, and yoga is the best.
Making a schedule for our family. We have some things down. We get up together around 8-8:30, breakfast and clean up, then until lunch we don't have much structure, lunch is too wishy washy for me, naps happen around 1-2:30 depending on when the girls seem tired and after lunch. Night routine starts around 7, bath time, pajamas, brush teeth and stories in bed. I want to make more of the hours in-between, I'd like to do more creative projects with the girls but I end up doing other things, not really paying attention to time and miss out on possibilities with them.
Planning to make this blog better than ever this year. I've been blogging for a little over 2 years now, and we have grown quickly. That being said,  I am looking for feedback! What do you love? What keeps you coming back? Is there a feature you are loving, want to see more of? What about the opposite? Is there a feature that doesn't interest you? What are things that detract from this blog? Things you could do without, or that bother you? Let me know! (Again, you can leave it in the comments or email me!) Also, if you have sponsored the blog before I would love to hear from you! I am looking to beef up my sponsor/stat page, so I would love to know what your honest experience was sponsoring and if you plan to again. E-mail me and lets talk!

  1. Ooh, I'd love to see some vlogs! I always enjoy when bloggers do them. As for what keeps me coming back..Posts like this! Honest and detailed. I like this blog for it's honesty and substance. The words are the focus, not the pictures. (Although I always do love your photos!) And I think that's important. Like I said before, each and every one of your posts is full of emotion and I don't feel like you ever post something just to say you posted, and that's what I really enjoy about it. :)

  3. Oooh, I love Soule Mama! I saw her at the market right before Christmas and I wanted to go crazy fangirl but I kept my cool, put the kale in my cart, and walked away. Also- farming? Goats? DO IT.

    1. Haha...I laughed so much at this little mental picture. I'd probably have a hard time not going crazy fangirl, as well, and then I'd end up as awkward, creepy silent staring person.

  4. Keep up the book recommendations! I love them. They've given me library inspiration on a couple of occasions. In fact, I've been reading so much lately that I plan to do some book posts myself. Thanks!

  5. Yes!!! I love the vlog idea-I think it would be so neat if you and your husband would do a few together(if he wanted to of course)...discuss different topics? It would be awesome to see the dynamic between you two firsthand. So sweet:) Love this blog, oh my gosh.

  6. I want some goats so bad. The people up the street have goats and we always get excited when we drive by and they are out. So fun.
I like watching vlogs because I like to get an idea of what the blogger sounds like, and I want to do one, but I haven't the slightest idea as to what I would say!

  8. The mini cactus is gorgeous!

I love coming back to your blog time and time again to see what is going on with you & your little family :)

  9. I like your 'freewriting' posts where you kind of just do a mind-dump and the ones about your marriage. Vlogs would be fun to watch. I'm too weird on camera to do those. Haha.

  10. I just found your blog and I must say I love it. I agree with Janelle, I like your marriage posts. Also love the fact you're a fellow young mom and you write about that very honestly. Just keep doing what you're doing? Not a lot of help but honestly, love everything I've read!

  11. Read Goat Song, by Kessler. It is so good. And I just love your space here, the honesty, the pictures...it's accessible. That is so important. Keep on doing what you are doing.

  12. i just started reading your blog-
but i think(a long with the rest of us mamas) love the honesty in your writing. the way you organize your thoughts on this space and how you display it so calmly. also you are so easily relatable and that is why you have such a huge following.. so keep it up! i dont think you need to change much.. as for a FAQ>>i am curious what you make for your little ones for breakfast, lunch, etc. i'm always wondering what healthy & easy meals other mothers prepare for their growing youth and if they have any recipes or ideas to share. some are too complicated and time consuming for an amateur like myself..wondering if you might have some suggestions!

  13. Hey Bekah!! I'm just getting started on my second blog, and your blog was actually what inspired me to do another one all over again. So here I am leaving my first official comment, even though I've been following you for a few months now. I just wanted to let you know I thought it was really cool that you did all thrifted gifts this year. I was thinking about that post of yours when I woke up on Christmas morning. It made me get out to our local thrift store more often. ;) Anyways, keep the writing coming!! :)

  14. Bekah, I'm loving the new look of your blog, it looks great! I love your "currently, on a friday" posts, and I also love the longer ones where you discuss marriage and other things on your mind. My favorite posts of yours are called "on mothering and being a woman" (I THINK that's what it's called...)and "motherhood and wanting more". I find myself going back to those two posts. I'm not even a mother and I find myself relating to those so much.

I think I'm getting off topic! haha

Anywho, I really love everything you post on here because none of them ever seem like "filler" posts. I would LOVE to see some vlogs on here, though! That would be kind of awesome!

  16. Looks like the two of you had a lovely date night! So sweet.. :)
Love your blog just the way it is, but have particular loves for your outfit posts and the posts on living minimally... they are very inspiring :)
Oh and goats! How fabulous! I've always wanted to own goats, but that may have to wait until I'm out of student accomodation ;)

  18. Hi Bekah. I wante to comment on your request for feedback about your blog. I love your blog, and I think I love it because you don't do any DIYs or "how tos" or "how to make your life perfect" posts. You tell stories about your day to day life, and you are raw and unpolished. The blogs that I, and I think many other's as well, gravitate to are the ones that people can relate to, connect with. Storytelling is a lost art I think, and maybe this is why some of us spend time staring at a screen for so many hours. When you write, it should be like we are all there, sharing a pot of coffee at your kitchen table. So, keep telilng stories about your life, and your day, and don't fall into the trap of the 'perfect life' illusion... we like your life, that's why we always come back.

I am so sorry to hear that. Can you email me? I would love to make things right.

  20. So I have just found your blog, somehow through many other links and blogs, and I really enjoyed it so far! I wanted to say that I understand the want in Tuscaloosa for a nice thrift store! I realize that saying that Birmingham has lots, means an hr drive, but really there are so many in the Hoover area that are pretty close within each other, so maybe one weekend if you get the itch or need to head this way, Hoover has lots of stores that are cheap! My most recent favorite find is Isabella's Consignment Boutique...everything is under $10, mainly between $3 to $5. The money from the clothes goes to a soccer program for inner city school students so they can have the gear to play! Hope this helps!

  21. I love hearing about all the things that inspire you: the books you're reading, ted talks you are watching, etc. Your blog is always bringing new books, ideas, and articles (for instance The Creative Family) into my world. I'd also love to hear more about the routines you have to simplify your life. Love reading about you and your wonderful family! Good luck setting goals for the new year!

  22. I'm curious what you use to drive your budget (in the most innocent/sincere ways possible, promise!!) How you guys manage to eat so healthy and buy mostly organic products on such a tight stipend...I'm about to enter into a period of life that is going to require quite a bit of sacrifice, but want to make sure that I'm still able to nourish my body even if it is a tighter budget. :)

    1. Hi Bekah, I like this idea. Can you do a post on "How to Live Organic on a tight budget." Ive been trying to switch to organic products, but I find it a bit rough on the wallet. Any tips? Thank you.
